지난 7월 12일 토요일, 김광용 재난안전관리본부장님은 폭염에 특히 취약한 곳들을 직접 찾아 안전 관리 상황을 세심히 살펴보셨습니다. 국민들의 안전을 위해 두 발로 뛰는 모습에 왠지 모르게 든든한 마음이 드네요.

따뜻한 마음, 산불 피해 이재민에게 먼저 향하다

김 본부장님은 가장 먼저 안타까운 산불 피해를 겪으신 경상북도 청송군과 영양군의 이재민들이 머무는 임시 주거 시설을 방문하셨습니다. 갑작스러운 화재로 삶의 터전을 잃으신 분들의 건강과 안녕을 챙기는 것이 급선무였겠죠.

식사는 제대로 제공되고 있는지, 냉방 시설은 충분한지 꼼꼼히 확인하시는 것은 물론, 더위를 피할 수 있는 야외 쉼터와 깨끗한 물을 마실 수 있는 급수 시설 설치 현황, 그리고 뜨거운 열기를 식혀줄 살수차 운영 상황까지 직접 점검하시는 열정적인 모습을 보여주셨습니다.

특히, 임시 거처에서 생활하시는 이재민분들이 전기 요금 부담 없이 시원한 여름을 보내실 수 있도록 전기 요금 감면과 같은 실질적인 지원 대책을 적극적으로 안내해 드릴 것을 관계자분들에게 강조하셨다고 합니다. 최장 1년 6개월 동안 전기 요금 감면 혜택을 받을 수 있다는 소식은 이재민분들에게 큰 위로와 힘이 될 것 같습니다.

시원한 물놀이, 즐거움만큼 안전이 중요!

다음으로 김 본부장님은 충청북도 보은군에 위치한 아름다운 서원계곡을 찾아 물놀이 안전 관리 실태를 점검하셨습니다. 본격적인 휴가철을 맞아 많은 분들이 찾을 것으로 예상되는 만큼, 안전 관리 요원 배치 현황부터 구명조끼 등 안전 시설 관리 상태까지 꼼꼼하게 확인하며 혹시 모를 인명 사고 예방에 만전을 기하는 모습이었습니다. 더운 날씨에도 국민 안전을 위해 땀 흘리는 안전 관리 요원들을 격려하는 따뜻한 마음도 잊지 않으셨다고 하네요.

한편, 같은 날 오병권 자연재난실장님은 충청북도 충주 지역의 무더위 쉼터를 방문하여 냉방 장비 작동 여부와 쉼터 운영 시간을 확인하고, 쉼터를 이용하시는 주민들의 이야기를 귀 기울여 듣는 시간을 가지셨습니다.

국민 안전, 정부의 최우선 과제!

김광용 재난안전관리본부장님은 “앞으로도 무더운 날씨가 계속될 것으로 예상되는 만큼, 정부는 폭염과 물놀이 사고로 인해 국민들의 소중한 생명이 희생되는 일이 없도록 안전 관리에 모든 힘을 쏟겠다”라고 힘주어 말씀하셨습니다. 더불어 국민들에게도 폭염 대비 국민 행동 요령과 물놀이 안전 수칙을 꼭 지켜주시길 당부하셨습니다.

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety Inspects Safety Amidst Heatwave, Carefully Checking on Wildfire Evacuees and Water Safety!

As scorching heat grips the nation with relentless tropical nights, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety is moving swiftly to ensure public safety. On Saturday, July 12th, Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters Chief Kim Kwang-yong personally visited vulnerable areas to inspect safety management conditions, demonstrating the Ministry’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of its citizens.

A Warm Gesture to Wildfire Evacuees

Chief Kim first visited temporary housing facilities prepared in Cheongsong-gun and Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. The top priority was to check on the health and safety of evacuees who lost their homes due to sudden wildfires. He meticulously checked whether meals were being provided adequately and if air conditioning facilities were sufficient. He also directly inspected the status of outdoor heat shelters, water supply facilities, and the operation of water sprinkler trucks to help people cool down.

In particular, he emphasized to on-site officials the need to actively inform evacuees living in temporary housing about support measures such as electricity bill discounts so they can spend the summer comfortably without worrying about electricity costs. The fact that they can receive electricity bill discounts for up to 1 year and 6 months will be a great help to the evacuees.

Cool Water Activities, Safety First!

Following this, Chief Kim visited Seowon Valley in Boeun-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, to inspect the safety management of water activities. With many people expected to visit during the peak vacation season, he carefully checked everything from the deployment status of safety management personnel to the maintenance status of safety facilities, making every effort to prevent casualties. He also took the time to encourage the safety management personnel who were working hard for public safety despite the hot weather.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Natural Disaster Response Director Oh Byung-kwon visited a heat shelter in Chungju, Chungcheongbuk-do Province, to check the operation of air conditioning equipment and the shelter’s operating hours. He also listened to the opinions of residents using the shelter.

Prioritizing Public Safety!

Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters Chief Kim Kwang-yong emphasized, “As hot weather is expected to continue for the time being, the government will put all its efforts into safety management to prevent precious lives from being lost due to heatwaves and water-related accidents.” He also urged the public to adhere to the national guidelines for coping with heatwaves and water safety rules.
